Altamont Free Library strives to represent the community it serves to the greatest extent possible. In the selection of new Trustees, the Board of Trustees shall not discriminate for reasons of race, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or any other reason not directly related to the ability of a person to do the work of a Trustee, or their ability to work productively and collegially with the entire AFL leadership team. The Board of Trustees may recruit new Trustees by invitation or by Board advertisement.
Procedure
Vacancies on the Board of Trustees will be advertised publicly through one or more of the following means: Posters in the library, AFL social media channels, mentions in AFL’s Altamont Enterprise column, email blasts to all or a portion of AFL’s email contact list, and by word of mouth.
When a vacancy occurs, prospective Trustee will be required to fill out the AFL Trustee Nomination Form. (See appended form.) The nomination or letter of interest will be submitted for consideration at a subsequent Board meeting, followed by a vote. If the nominee is approved by the Board, the President, Vice-President or their designee will conduct orientation for the new Board member at their mutual convenience within the first 60 days of the Trustee’s term.
Each Trustee shall serve a term of three years, and may serve no more than two terms consecutively. Having served two consecutive terms, Trustees may not reapply for the Board for one year. Trustees appointed to a Board vacancy shall serve the remainder of the departed Trustee’s term, and be eligible to serve a second full term.
