Unattended Child Policy

Policy
The Altamont Free Library welcomes children to use library resources and attend programs. A
parent, guardian, or a responsible adult is expected to accompany young children. The Library
staff is not responsible for unattended children and does not provide day care.

Procedure and Guidelines

  1. Children under the age of ten may not be left unattended in the Library.
  2. Parents or caregivers are responsible for the appropriate behavior of their children
    while using the Library.

If an unattended child is left at the Library for an extended period of time, the staff will attempt
to locate the parent or caregiver. If a parent or caregiver cannot be reached, the police will be
called to escort the child home or to keep the child until a parent or responsible person can be
reached.
